The Process: Harlowe

I saw this cushion cover on Amber Interiors Shoppe and fell in love with the layout. I loved the vertical and horizontal aspects of this vintage textile. I’m always a sucker for linear design.

I also knew I wanted to incorporate some intricate bohemian art. So I got busy drawing and eventually ended with this carving.

I hand-stamped the finished product multiple times to ensure that each print was slightly varied resulting in unique repeats. Then I scanned each piece and digitized them-orientating them in a linear and vertical fashion similar to the initial inspiration.

I had multiple rounds of colour sampling (as pictured below) before I eventually ended on these four colourways: Cyan, Prussian Blue, Terra Cotta, and Sky.

This textile took me months upon months to create. First, with the creation of the initial intricate bohemian-like art, to carving it, to hand-stamping it, and finally, to digitizing it and laying it out in a fashion that I felt completed the design.  I’m so delighted with the finished product and hope you treasure it as much as I do.

Happy decorating!

Jane Meets Ruby Textiles was born from the influence of two creative souls in my life- my mother, Jane and my grandmother, Ruby. From each of them I learned the joy of creating beauty from a few simple things, and I worked to hone these skills to apply them to my love for textiles and design. Each and every pattern is hand-created by me, then printed and sewn 100% in Canada, ensuring the utmost quality and craftsmanship for your project. Gravitating towards simplistic shapes juxtaposed with ornate details and earth-toned colourways, you'll find my textiles seamlessly blend old and new world design aesthetics, lending themselves well to a variety of styles and applications. In this way, I hope to add timeless, well-crafted textiles to the spaces you so thoughtfully designed. Thank you for welcoming my art into your beautiful home! Myra Scott
